MALÊTH-ZANDÂN

Category Families
Race Minâth
Notoriety High

In 366, a mercenary army raised by the Malêth-Zandân expelled the usurper Sagayân Kazanîr. As a Terrant Emperor, Sagayân Kazanîr lacked the backing of the Minâth-Nôrî, so his defeat was almost assured. His rule was not recognized by those wielding power in society, for the laws set down by the Minâth-Nôrî dictated that only a family of the Minâth-Nôrî could govern the people. The Malêth-Zandân expelled the Kazanîrs and installed one of their own on the throne of the First Khazarkar Empire.

Hîlû Malêth-Zandân ruled the empire as an emperor, proving to be as despised as Sagayân Kazanîr. The vast wealth of the Malêth-Zandân, stemming from their near-complete control of Sapthôr-Sahil resources, kept them uncontested on the throne for eleven years. During this time, Malêth-Zandân made several attempts to marry their son into a house of the Minâth-Nôrî, aiming to legitimize their claim to the throne. Hîlû Malêth-Zandân eventually married into another powerful non-Minâth-Nôrî house, which was highly religious and favored by most of the noble families of the Minâth-Nôrî. In 377, Hîlû Malêth-Zandân agreed to abdicate, and in return, his family was recognized as a family of the Minâth-Nôrî. The family he married into, the Khirrêths, also became part of the Minâth-Nôrî. As part of the deal, the Khirrêths became the ruling family, maintaining a bond, akin to an alliance, with the Malêth-Zandân by having King Nithil Khirrêth take the hand of Azôn Malêth-Zandân.
