Sludge is an ecological catastrophe. In bygone eras, it was said to be a shallow lake nourished by numerous streams and the rains cascading down the Iragandul hills. The intensive mining, industry, and negligence of Hjalmarbrodd generate a perpetual runoff of pollutants that accumulate in the waterways and ultimately settle in this former lake. Unlike most regions of the Clans, this location was christened by a traveling Tragaran who wryly remarked that the lake comprises more sludge than water. The dwarves humorously adopted the name Sludge, and it endures.
