Khirêl Tâmândêth, commonly referred to as the Arcanums, are distinguished wizard colleges. Each Tamlêrran state hosts at least one such institution, while those with multiple Arcanums are the result of annexation - a wizard governor of one state has conquered a rival state, incorporating it as a Tamlêrran Third.
Each year at the Arcanums, the professors meticulously assess the freshmen class. They are compelled to expel those lacking the necessary proficiency to advance beyond the initial level. Those whose tuition was subsidized by the state are mandated to serve in the military until they have fully reimbursed the funds. This longstanding practice dates back to the era of Volgad, and is an esteemed tradition. It affords many the opportunity to forgo further study, even if they possess the aptitude, in order to pursue alternative interests such as becoming a merchant, farmer, or alternative vocation.
The inaugural college of Khirêl Tâmândêth was established in Imrik during the Volgad era. Though now a ruin, it remains a destination for courageous, and perhaps reckless, recent alumni of the modern Khirêl Tâmândêth.
The colleges of Khirêl Tâmândêth are state-funded. The two principal prerequisites for admission are a desire to become a mage and Tamlêrran citizenship. Scholars from the Neetch Institute have frequently asserted that Khirêl Tâmândêth is a reflection of the Tamlêrran populace's reverence and affinity for the arcane arts.
The symbol of Khirêl Tâmândêth represents three stacked books, signifying the three academic years that comprise the college curriculum.
