Imrik was established by Nithian tribespeople originating from northern Borngring. The small fortification would eventually transform into a powerful city-state.

In 2615 LE, Imrik became the capital of the Volgad Kingdom. The primary threat to the Volgads were the fire giants of southern Borngring. The two parties engaged in increasingly bitter conflict over time, culminating in a great war. The climax of what came to be known as the Lava Flood War ( 110 HE - 125 HE ) was the eruption of the Guldat volcano, spewing rivers of lava for seven long months. The fire giant tribes, each led by their own chieftain, utilized these fiery torrents to assail Volgad territories. In the final days of the Siege of Imrik, the deity Surtur appeared, wielding his blade Aratourn to smash a great breach in Imrik's near-impregnable wall. Aware that his rash act violated the Mandate of the Heavens, he vanished as swiftly as he had arrived. The first to pass through the gaping hole in the wall was a charismatic, one-armed brute named Kelksorli.

Those who defended Imrik in its final moments were the elite city guard, the 2,000 warrior-mages of the Šukhan Legion. They all perished in the streets and towers of Imrik, fulfilling their oath to safeguard the evacuation of civilians and Volgad's retreating army. In 125 HE, Imrik met its demise.

The ancient settlement of Imrik remained uninhabited. Those who attempted to resettle the area encountered numerous difficulties - the dark elves of Phaerssysn were angered by the loss of their trading partner, illithid hunting parties prowled the region, and peculiar entities emerged from Geledh, a subterranean complex that had once served as the base of operations for the elite Šukhan Legion.

In the Chaos War, a band of valorous individuals reached Imrik, with one chronicling a chilling account:

All claim the same thing - at night, just as they are drifting off, they hear faint battle cries in Nidurrâb, or distant thunderous crashes and the sound of charging giant footfalls, as if a battle raged just a street away. Some say they hear other, even more unnerving things, and it grows worse; stay too long and one risks becoming a raving lunatic or gripped in suicidal despair. One of their own, a new recruit and oddly enough a centaur, sent by someone high up to help and no doubt watch them, succumbed to the latter. It seemed they were becoming quite important, needed for something epic.

Chisel, from his journal on Imrik and Geledh - "Imrik's Whispers"

The fiery, red-scaled Drimgath orcs once occupied the surface areas of Imrik, followed by the fire giants of a Hlimi Prince who staked claim to the region. Subsequently, the Ingrith trolls came to control the area until they were expelled by the efforts of Sahqon Lok Maar and his Botaff associates.
