The Borngring Pact was an alliance of fire giant tribes across the Borngring region and the surrounding highlands. Envious of their neighbors' prosperity, the giants initiated this war to seize the territory and riches of the Volgads. The fire giant leader Kelksorli later wrote that their true aim was not the wealth, but to ignite a unification of the fire giant tribes and lift them from the pitiful state they had fallen into since the Creation War.

The war was dubbed the Lava Flood War due to the torrents of molten lava that poured from Guldat. The formidable fire giants employed these scorching rivers to transport their forces northward into Volgad territory. Additionally, they utilized the lava to annihilate select enemy fortifications, either by encircling them with channels of searing magma or, when the terrain permitted, inundating them entirely with the incandescent deluge.

The greatest and final conflict of this war was the Siege of Imrik. It is recounted that the primal deity Surtur materialized, wielding his blade Aratourn to cleave a substantial breach in the walls of the Volgad capital. He vanished as swiftly as he had emerged.

When the walls of Imrik were breached, in an overt infringement of the Mandate of the Heavens, the assailants were confronted by an elite guard fortified by Arcana. The Šukhan, stalwart and distinguished defenders, stayed behind to safeguard the retreat of stragglers and impede certain demise.

Imrik persevered for an extended period. After five years of the conflict, most of the populace had fled Borngring, traveling northward, past the Fangs of Steirgar and into the primeval fey domains of Cinyossion.

The war concluded with the downfall of Imrik. The Volgads relocated their entire populace northward to Cinyossion, reestablishing themselves at Aphelzâk.

Two decades after a war to unify the giant tribes, Kelksorli was elevated as the inaugural monarch of Hofthorm.
