The 33rd Azimuthal Potentate of the Runax Chenkhar was Goulnax, who was cherished by the majority, yet his eldest son grew increasingly impatient with his protracted leadership and surmised he would never don the crown during his lifetime, so he engineered his premature abdication. Goulnax was assassinated in the third year of his reign for the sake of his own family. At the time, he adhered to a lawful neutral alignment and did not firmly believe in any Higher Power.
Goulnax was interred in a tomb many miles above Shiz-Abscis. He did not remain long in repose, for his yearning for vengeance brought him into contact with Thasmudyan. Goulnax pledged his soul to Thasmudyan and any of those he consumed, and in return Thasmudyan blessed him with undeath. He rose from his tomb as a ghoul king. He preyed upon his people and others, creating many more ghouls - his new subjects. He had Izurâg constructed as his new palace, with his subjects dwelling in a vast network of chaotically arranged structures akin to mausoleums. His descent into darkness is often attributed to the prolonged use of the mace Ruin. Although it is not a sentient or evil item, the necromantic and "undead-like" properties of it are said to have tainted its wielder.
