The Sunder Isles emerged gradually over the decades following the manifestation of the Dead God Fountain in 1510 DE. One tale recounts that tremendous shock waves swept across the region, rending the landmass into six sizable islands and countless smaller ones.

After the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), a group of storm giants who had served under Thjorygg arrived at the Sunder Isles. They constructed dwellings along the cliffs and in the highlands of these storm-battered islands, where the convergence of two seas created treacherous currents and naval hazards, rendering the area highly defensible.

In the 17th century of the Lith-Crillion Era, the idyllic existence of the remote isle on the Brucrumus mainland was disrupted. They became the target of raids by perhaps the most power-hungry of all the giantkind, the Eldritch. These were Thraedli raiders scouring the lands for weapons, lore, and relics left behind from the wars. Seeking the storm giant's knowledge on controlling weather and handling lightning magic, as well as their great wealth, the Thraedli warred with the people of Sunder Isles for decades. The conflict was eventually resolved when a high-ranking Thraedli daughter was married to a highly respected storm giant captain. This allowed the transfer of knowledge without either side admitting defeat. Peace brought commerce, opening ports between the two sides, and an increasing number of Eldritch settling in the area. Most of these gave up their old ways of plunder, turning to farming and fishing, and learning the prayers of Thjorygg.
