The great ice fields of the north occasionally feature expanses of ebony ice - jet-black sheets that glisten with an ominous energy. [1]
Maen Fyrk is an expansive ebony ice field that encompasses a vast 1600 square mile area. Ebony ice is a rare form of ice that has been imbued with negative energy. It bolsters undead entities and poisons the surrounding landscape. Maen Fyrk was created when eldritch necromancers at Frosvirk failed to properly bind an abyssal creature. The entire city was subsequently flooded with malevolent energy, leading to the devouring of the populace's souls by the nether beast.
Many of those slain at Frosvirk have risen as powerful undead. These reanimated creatures now roam the ruins of Frosvirk and the ebon wastes of Maen Fyrk. Some of these undead are exceptionally powerful, even surpassing the forces mustered by the Black Tide of Thasmudyan. The horrific entities that haunt these areas are contained by the ancient Maen Fyrk Boundary Ward. However, this ward is no longer as secure as it once was. Occasionally, an undead or some other fell terror manages to find a weak spot in the boundary ward and escapes into the wilderness of Ice Cap.
