In the northern reaches of the Shadow Rift lies an area known as The Deafening. During the era of the Glangveif Monarchy, which spanned from 314 HE to 31, this region served as the empire's sole source of salt. As the Glangveif dynasty waned, the salt mines were abandoned, leaving behind a population of Orcs and other slaves. These individuals took control of the operations, trading salt as their primary means of income. They divided into warring factions, a state of affairs that persisted until the arrival of the Ink-Shad empire.
The area is known as The Deafening due to its tremendous sound. Encircled by innumerable echo stones, a mighty waterfall cascades 2,200 feet, generating a noise level so profound that it induces deafness. Those who toil here employ robust ear protection to prevent permanent auditory impairment.
