Thosgeir marks the southernmost extremity of the Ognar fjord. The sole reason this area remains unfrozen is its proximity to a Temples of Begnhidrir. The warmth emanating from the temple's cauldron prevents the unnatural glacial flows of the Ice Cap from encroaching upon Begnhidrir and the lowlands beyond.
Thosgeir is not a true lake, but rather a part of the larger fjord, Ognar, with the surface of most of this fjord frozen over. Ongar and Thosgeir remain connected by an underground channel, which is concealed beneath several hundred feet of ice and snow.
The presence of the Temple of Begnhidrir and the chilling atmosphere of Ice Cap culminates in a nearly perpetual shroud of smoke and fog over the lake and the surrounding region. The humid conditions of the area enable lichen and other vegetation to thrive. These environmental factors also accommodate the needs of the inhabitants of Hel, who visit this locale for swimming, hunting, and procuring sustenance.
