The Goliath city of Hel resides on the fringes of the Ice Cap region. Late in the God Era, its founders migrated to the northern tracts of the Brucrumus continent, fleeing the rugged and perilous lands of Denerra for safer havens. Most settled along the northeastern coasts of Kindarum. Eleven years later, with a thriving colony established, they packed up and traveled southward, persuaded by their head shaman - under the influence of his lover's Coronet of the Concubine - that greater prosperity and game awaited them further south.

The mighty Goliath traveled a distance of three hundred miles southward, eventually settling in the lush and verdant vale of Begnhidrir. In this picturesque valley, they discovered three ancient temples dedicated to a half-demon of seductive allure. The party soon learned that these grand temple complexes had been constructed by fire giants and others captivated by the charms of a cambion known as The Concubine, referred to by that name in the present day.

The city of Hel is constructed around the Heart of Mephi'khar, the central religious site of three known as the Temples of Begnhidrir. The cauldrons of the Heart, fueled by otherworldly flames, provide heating for the city's grand bath complexes, and through an intricate network of tubes, channels, and canals, regulate the temperature of the surrounding environment.

The citizens of Hel adhere to the worship of either Atlas or The Concubine. Consequently, the city boasts an abundance of brothels renowned for their unparalleled quality and services throughout the realm.

The city also serves as a learning center for religious matters pertaining not solely to Atlas, but nearly every other deity of the realm, including those that have come and gone. The Church of Atlas maintains vast vaults housing tomes dating back to the God Era.

Hel has resisted religious conversion efforts by Khazarkar proselytizers of Set and engaged in battles with them over their attempts to introduce Set worship into Begnhidrir. Outside the religious realm, the Khazarkar Empire and Hel have robust economic ties and provide mutual assistance when dealing with the frost giants of Netheram. Pursuant to a treaty with the Khazarkars, Hel prohibits citizenship for "renegade" MinĂ¢th.
