Denerra is situated eastward of Elemantum and northeastward of Brucrumus. It is bordered to the south by the Forbidden Sea. The landscape of this continent is rugged, maze-like, swampy, unnatural, and exceedingly challenging to traverse. A ring of snow-capped peaks encircles the majority of the continent. Denerra is arduous to reach from the south due to its location on the opposite side of the Forbidden Sea, an ocean plagued by the Bal-Kriav's Cube of Arcane.

The perilous areas surrounding the Cube pose a grave risk that no prudent captain dares linger in for long. A powerful gale or storm that carries a vessel into the Cube will reduce the ship to kindling and utterly annihilate anyone who ventures too close. Moreover, the tumultuous seas in the vicinity are constantly churned by small shock waves emanating from the Cube. The Cube is also known to emit pulses of magic ranging from a mile to a hundred miles in diameter, capable of deadening the mightiest of spells and inducing magical mutations in the living, undead, and constructs alike.

Suemokni, a member of the Tazu Hidyal community, recounts the tale "Sailing the Forbidden Sea"

Denerra is sometimes referred to as the Prison Continent. During the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), a Covenant leader named Bal-Kriav oversaw the defense of what was then known as Sphere 411. He and his angelic army were tasked with defending the world from the primordials and their forces. Considered too noble and forgiving, some primordials and their minions were imprisoned instead of being eliminated (c.f. Order 9119). Angels like Ares offered to handle the executions that Bal-Kriav could not bring himself to carry out, but he refused and had the captives imprisoned in remote locations. Denerra was shaped by the gods to serve as a prison for many of the primordial captives. Powerful primordial minions and even a few primordials are confined here in vaults deep in lakes, sunken into swamps, buried in mountains, or in the dark reaches beneath the land. Though millennia have passed since the Creation War, Denerra's prisons remain intact, guarded, and monitored. However, a concerted effort can break a prison and free whatever is within. In the Lith-Crillion Era, the Thraedli came to the Dulpathâra region of Denerra. They overcame the guardians and traps of one prison, freeing the primordial Silfergath. Upon its release, Silfergath instantly encased the Thraedli in solid ice with its bitter cold. The primordial did not travel far, however, as it was soon entombed in an impenetrable block of ice when it reached the Nautrek Sea.
