Wither Bones

Category Resources
Type bone
Source unnatural

The skeletal remains of a dragon that has become a ghostly entity are the source of wither bones. If these bones are shattered, anything within a 5-foot radius will wither and deteriorate. This effect results in the demise of plants and animals with less than 1 Hit Die. Other creatures must succeed on a Fortitude saving throw (DC 17), or they will prematurely age by 1-3 years. A failed save requires an additional Fortitude check (DC 15), or the creature becomes cursed to transform into a ghost upon death. This curse can be lifted by a priest of 11th level or higher.

Withered Bones are utilized in the crafting of arrowheads, javelin tips, and spearheads. This process often results in discoloration and eventual corrosion of the encompassing metal. Withered Bones persistently emit ghostly currents of white smoke.

As a consequence of the perils associated with Wither Bone handling, it is typically utilized solely by the undead, Aggorath or Muneyd'vith. These dragon-blood races are impervious to the bone's malevolent energy.
