Category Submersibles
Class Siege Crab

Siege Crabs are amphibious war machines invented during the Horgon Era by the Kuo-toa city-state Fongruk-Toa. These formidable creatures are fashioned from titanic crustaceans that undergo a perilous arcane infusion, a process both debilitating and excruciating for the subject. Throughout this transformation, a team of a dozen or more priests dedicates their curative arts to the hapless creature. While refined over the epochs, this process still yields a mere 60% survival rate. In some instances, the creature breaks free of the arcane shackles restraining it, unleashing its immense strength and destructive potential upon its surroundings. In the early stages of Fongruk-Toa's expansion, such uncontrolled outbursts often resulted in the ruin of entire towns or even the city itself. However, as the empire's wealth grew, they constructed expansive pens to house these beasts and perfected the ceremony of combining wizardry and priestly rites to transform colossal-sized crustaceans into willing servitors and formidable war machines.

The First Epoch witnessed Tinnanguth's spies pilfering the technical expertise necessary for crafting siege crabs from Fongruk-Toa. This innovation transformed Tinnanguth into the preeminent maritime power of the Pearl Sea until the empire's downfall.

Late in the Third Epoch, Ora Tubruš commenced the construction of siege crabs. They obtained this ancient technology from the adventuring group Zhut's Cutthroats. In 1834, this group pillaged long-forgotten tomes on siege crab making from the Tinnanguth ruins in Liope. The remnants of the Tinnanguth empire are strewn with the wrecks of siege crabs, for despite their demise, their bodies have endured the ravages of time and the elements unscathed.
