The settlement of Ardilthôr first emerged as a strategic riverine bastion and ferrying station situated upon the expansive waters of the Rute. Its placement was determined by practical considerations of logistics and defense: the ford and adjacent docks facilitated the crossing of troops and supplies where the river broadened to a considerable width.

The city's contemporary growth derives principally from the turbulence of the Cinazan Front, when Ardilthôr became a refuge for displaced denizens of locales such as Sakarumân and the hamlets of Armânuk. In the conflict's aftermath, some twenty thousand individuals stayed, transforming the base into a thriving urban hub whose economy and civic landscape expanded quickly.
