During the formation of the world of Kriav, the Grand Arcanes set to work constructing a device to harness arcane power from the Web of Magic. The first of its kind, a colossal structure, this Cube of Arcane was built to expedite the shaping of the world around it. Additionally, it served as a barrier against Rifts, preventing Chaos from reclaiming the Works of Creation.
Hazardous items, near impervious, they do fail. One of the most well-known incidents was the cube's collapse on Kriav. It stemmed from an unhealthy rivalry between Silvanus and Corellon, each striving to surpass the other in creating the finest fey. Out of carelessness, Corellon made the mistake of exhausting all of his Creationists' powers while also drawing from Kriav's Cube of Arcane. This compromised the Cube's integrity, triggering a fail-safe. On 19 Bloom 1301 DE, the Cube unleashed all of its arcane energy upon the world. It infused the land, weather, denizens, and everything else. Nearly everything acquired some magical taint. Instead of the Cube of Arcane being the source of arcane energy, the world Kriav and everything in it became vessels of arcane.
The other side effects of Kriav's Cube Collapse were the creation of feywild fuses and the emergence of the Satyr race. Kriav's Tungesti people grew to possess innate magical resistance, though they remained forever bound to a barbaric disposition. One tribe of Tungesti suffered a similar fate to those who became Satyrs, fusing with their equine companions and giving rise to the inaugural Centaur population.
