In the First Epoch, financiers and merchant magnates, largely espousing the tenets of Mammon, monopolized the markets of the Seven Vales. Asserting dominance over critical domains, they dictated pricing, catalyzing a prolonged period of escalating prices and impoverishment.
In 390, those opposing the so-called Mammon Block successfully dismantled a mercantile system that had crippled the economies of the Seven Vales and caused significant hardship. The followers of Mammon, concentrated in Nermanea, found themselves subject to laws that prevented their previous business practices. Over the following decade, nearly twenty thousand individuals migrated southeast to Rabaranda and other settlements along the Nermanis Sea. In these new locations, they refined their business operations. While remaining shrewd and often monopolistic, their practices were less crippling to the populace. Three centuries later, they had evolved into the Nermanis Syndicate ( 712 - 923 ) .
