By 1115, the guild Bralda-Balc was enduring a leadership crisis. All guild members were summoned to the Spire of Neld-Rac for an attitude adjustment and to receive an important message regarding the group's future direction. At this meeting, the five remaining leaders of Bralda-Balc revealed themselves as vampires. They had all been corrupted from delving into an ancient dark art that transforms one into a Soul Eater. They sealed the Spire and massacred 84 guild members, converting many into vampire spawn. The former guild leaders, now vampire lords, became known as the Sil Vaarnufaaz, or Soul Tormentors.
The vampire lords of Sil Vaarnufaaz are truly dreadful entities, bestowing immense strength and fortitude upon their vampire progeny. At any given moment, there are between five and ten vampire lords within the Spire. The Sil Vaarnufaaz collaborate solely when required, such as when assailed by the forces of some empire or another grave peril. Typically, however, they scheme against one another and forge alliances with other malevolent organizations when it may benefit them.
The majority of the Sil Vaarnufaaz inhabit the vicinity of the Spire of Neld-Rac.
