Gazdu Dras'ee, daughter of Lenassu Dras'ee, was a Vith'kirr who could shapeshift between humanoid and dragon form. Outside the Khazarkar Empire, she was sometimes persecuted for being a lycanthrope. In her journeys, she discovered that other lycanthropes faced similar or even harsher treatment. Her family's reputation spared her from potential execution on multiple instances, whereas those from less esteemed lineages would be killed or imprisoned indefinitely.
The law does not treat lycanthropes fairly, even in the most esteemed of realms like the Lands of Purity. It is generally assumed that all lycanthropes are either predators of humanoids or destined to become so. Certain branches of lycanthropy are more prone to hunting behavior and are seen as the more savage and feral among their kind, but they all adhere to their animal instincts. Venture into the wilderness alone, and if a hungry pack of wolves encounters you, they will not distinguish between two legs or four, though they may have learned that the two-legged prey are easier to catch. In all the lands I have traversed during my two-and-a-half-century odyssey, I have observed a common theme: lycanthropes are either viewed with suspicion, hunted like animals, or persecuted.
Unlike my mother, I am not consumed by the desire for conquest and the usurpation of power. Instead, I seek to establish a haven for those akin to myself, a place where we may freely assume any form, be it humanoid, hybrid, or bestial. However, to live unencumbered, we must be able to hunt instinctively, and for certain of my kin, that entails pursuing any warm-blooded creature.
Gazdu, the Lycanthropic Conundrum
In 1463, Gazdu acquired a vessel named The Weretopia and embarked on an expedition to discover a new haven where were-creatures could live peacefully and embrace their wilder inclinations. The Weretopia and her crew of lycanthropes journeyed to the continent of Straiden. In a region later recognized as Weretopia, Gazdu and her lycanthropes established the settlement of Free Tooth, where she ruled for a little over a century. Among lycanthropes, she became colloquially known as The Savior .
Unlike her mother, she did not harbor ambitions of conquest or become a usurper. Rather, she sought a sanctuary where others like her could freely assume any shape they desired.
