The Ashmaker is a versatile +3 trident that seamlessly adapts to the user's needs. In the hands of a medium-sized creature, it manifests as a formidable 9-foot-long weapon. Crafted from arjale, the Ashmaker's three large fire opals have been masterfully honed to razor-sharp edges and points.
Ashmaker was crafted by a fire giant smith named Gauldmyth. It was intended as a gift for King Otrafning of Hofthorm, but the weapon never reached its intended destination.
Those slain by Ashmaker are magically set ablaze, consumed entirely within 9 rounds. For the initial three rounds, it is safe to touch the burning remains. Thereafter, the flames grow increasingly intense - inflicting 9 HP of damage per round on the fifth round, and then doubling in severity each subsequent round. By the ninth round, the flames inflict a staggering 288 HP of damage. The heat is so searing that metal is reduced to slag, and most items and even bones are utterly destroyed. In the end, only ashes remain.
