The Ânul hills extend approximately 110 miles from north to south, with a width of roughly 20 miles. They commence near the slopes of Damreth. These hills are bounded to the west by the Orondir swamp and to the northeast by the vast Izen'nâth canyon.

The area, pockmarked with tunnels and both active and abandoned mines, has long been a prolific source of silver and iron, mined since the dominion of Aslauthroa (9 HE - 1891 HE).

The village of Ânul is home to approximately ten thousand Mongrelfolk. Some of these hybrid beings and other denizens possess a mild case of the affliction known as the Ânul Rot. They are the descendants of those freed by Queen Kjadval during the Year 1420.
