Okrungknot is a fortress situated in the Ânul Hills. Initially, it served as a simple stockade and trading post for the gnolls inhabiting the region. While excavating the site, they discovered a hidden labyrinth known as the Torazan Sanctum. Despite losing numerous individuals to the magical traps and guardians, the gnolls eventually took control of the sanctum. They spent considerable time searching for the rumored chambers and passages believed to be laden with riches, but few were ever found due to the persistent magical wards set by the Mad Wizard, causing them to lose interest and move on to dig elsewhere.

In the year 1420, Okrungknot became home to both gnolls and Mongrelfolk. The latter were liberated by Queen Kjadval of Griddrir, rendering them vulnerable to the gnolls.

When rumors spread of riches coming out of Torazan Sanctum, the Hakkhild and other gnoll tribes became a persistent problem. Okrungknot expanded to confront the escalating raids from their avaricious neighbors. Sacked numerous times, the settlement always returned to those aligned with Khazarkar interests. Backed by external assistance eager to preserve them as a buffer, the place would eventually be reclaimed. This outside support typically originated from Barun-Mitân. They view Okrungknot as strategically vital, positioned at the juncture of the gnoll and mongrelfolk tribes of Ânul, the earth giant chieftains of the Eylami Valley, and the intrigues of the cloud city Griddrir.

In 1487, the cloud city-state of Griddrir, displeased with the gnolls' failure to pay tribute, dispatched a mercenary force against them. A drow mercenary company from Ghaundan infiltrated Okrungknot through secret passageways known only to them; a few had previously served as security under Flay. After seizing the location, they proceeded to loot Flay's old domicile. During this, someone activated the labyrinth's primary defense system, Flay's Flesh Golem Army, a force of 550 flesh golems. The only reason the entire company was not annihilated is said to be that the bodies clogged the passages, and the golems, too dim-witted to clear them, instead pulverized the corpses into piles of shattered bones and flesh.

The locale regained its stability, but was subsequently pillaged by Griddrir or her subordinates. This prompted a ruthless campaign to purge the region of gnolls. The Mongrelfolk, now outnumbering the gnolls ten to one, spearheaded the ground operations. By the year 1722, Ânul had been purged of four centuries of gnollish dominance; the gnolls retreated to the highlands of Damreth and other remote territories.

In the year 1832, Okrungknot and its subterranean labyrinth were seized by a Conclave searching for an ancient relic. Several months later, the Hulkurân Zagar, a unit of the Maul Seekers, raided the site, eliminating the Conclave garrison and reclaiming the Scion Stump of Lukoon.

With the ongoing war, Okrungknot serves as a bulwark against the restless giants of the north. The old moneyed class has returned. Barun-Mitân and Mulun-Dûna eagerly aim to rebuild this epicenter of conflict. They yearn for its security, and the commercial houses seek to revive this historic commercial hub. They wish to circumvent trade restrictions once more by utilizing Okrungknot as an intermediary. Should Griddrir impede this, they would firmly establish themselves as working in the interests of the Flux Pact.

I can only wonder what our part is in all this.
