In one of the conflicts of the Creation War, Surtur was dislodged from his fiery battle chariot. During the ensuing skirmish, he became detached from the vehicle and was ultimately compelled to retreat from the battlefield by the celestial forces confronting him. One such angel was Ares. Given that the weapon was regarded as a product of disorder, his compatriots declined to claim it as plunder. Ares, however, quipped:
This is a weapon of war, not some chaos-infused device. Surtur constructed it to rain fiery devastation upon his adversaries, not to sow the seeds of pandemonium. Therefore, I shall take possession of it and subsequently determine how to operate it without being reduced to ashes.
