Type ship engine
Cost 70,000 GP

Soti Aldi, a term that roughly translates to "Gem-Cruncher," refers to the engines utilized to power skyships. At the heart of these engines lies an imprisoned air elemental, serving as the source of power for the engine and providing the thrust necessary for the ship's flight. Requiring a constant supply of air to function, as it sucks in and expels air for movement, gem-crushers are rendered inoperative within the Void.

The captain of the vessel waves a signal to Otroki's flagship, indicating all is well, but that assessment is evidently inaccurate. Suddenly, a sizable aperture materializes in the rear of the Nautrek, followed by a whirlwind of air and debris. It resembles a formidable, twenty-foot-long tornado, moving with intentionality. Fridi shakes her head, comprehending that the tornado is the air elemental which powered the Nautrek's Gem Crusher engine. Its engine housing has been breached by a cannonball. She observes as the Nautrek's power source, savoring its newfound liberty, soars off into the skies, rendering the ship powerless and plummeting.

The city-state Griddrir pioneered these engines. They are also the sole producers capable of manufacturing them. This stems from an age-old pact between the Heinjar Sorgny and Chaos's air elementals.

The locomotives are powered by gems, serving as nourishment for the captive air elementals within each engine. These creatures remain unaware of their predicament, whether due to potent enchantments or mental manipulation; their sole purpose is to consume and heed directives such as "Increase Wind" and "Stop Wind."
