Prisoners of the Har'kish Empire are frequently subjected to cruel torture and psychic probing, with those deemed valuable undergoing programming through psychic surgery to adhere to the whims of their overlords. Following this specialized treatment, the programmed servant becomes known as a Drone of Gith, named in tribute to the Githyanki hero Gith.
Har'kish psionicists, proficient in the manipulation of other minds, imbue the drone with three primary directives:

- Not to attack, injure, or inflict pain on a githyanki
- To follow the orders of a githyanki of the rank of Gish or higher
- To serve the githyanki race to the best of their ability
