Enlightening Transfer is the designation for a process carried out by a psychic surgeon supported by other mentalists in metaconcert. The surgeon dismantles an undead patient's mind, transferring portions of it to another undead. This procedure has been attempted on the living without success, consistently inducing excruciating pain, death, and leaving those it does not kill in a dreadfully insane state.
Llydaros mentalists developed this process as a means of transferring the knowledge of a "tainted" undead ancestor to a pure one. Prior to this innovation, esteemed thinkers, musicians, artists, and craftspeople had become undead to perpetuate their craft. However, as these undead began to deteriorate, transforming into malevolent and destructive entities, they were retired. The Enlightening Transfer was conceived to extract the positive attributes of the retiring patient, transferring them to another newly created undead or one still considered "untainted".
The last time the Enlightening Transfer was conducted by mortal psychic surgeons occurred during the early stages of the Dark Revolt. Following this, with Torvild Isle purged of the living, the undead leaders, along with their renowned thinkers, musicians, artists, and craftsmen, perpetuated the tradition of preserving the beneficial aspects while discarding the undesirable.
