Those who wield psionics are typically referred to as psionicists or mentalists, with some describing them as followers of the Way of the Mind, Mind's Way, or Path of Thought. The use of psionics is analogous to mages casting arcane spells, where the latter draw upon arcane energy from the Web of Magic to power their incantations, while psionicists harness their mind's psychic energy to tap into the Web's arcane power and energize their abilities. Some argue that the Way of the Mind is the more arduous path, as it requires both psychic and arcane energy to manifest one's powers. Conversely, others contend that the Way of the Arcanists is more challenging, as it necessitates finding the requisite material components to cast certain spells, occasionally rendering some incantations unusable due to the inability to acquire the necessary ingredients.

Psionicists have existed for a considerable period, though never as numerous as mages. An upsurge occurred during the First Epoch, when Tragarans of Marninnoth, the same who would establish the Borillisk Empire, explored ruins just south of Rônnahar. In this place, they uncovered crystal obloids, devices containing the sentience of Auhtai seeking to prolong their minds eternally. Rather than succumbing to the region's Hive Swarms, it is said they transferred their minds and souls into these crystals, the Auhtai Obloids. A few Tragarans utilized these crystals to open their own minds, granting them abilities akin to magic, thus initiating the study of psionics within Borillisk, which then spread to surrounding peoples.
