On the 17th of Witchrite in 8672 DE, the Covenant general Lukoon, with his power as a Sentient Creationist, established a people to serve as his own personal army, indoctrinating them with his ideas and goals. They were named the Tragaran, after the Traga plant native to the world of Muspelheim.

Lukoon created nearly a thousand Tragaran infants. Lacking the time to raise so many, they were dispatched to the Covenant crèches at Gamba-Nîr. One group of Tragarans was raised in the upper elevations of Kilth, another in the northern lowlands, and a third in the southern jungles. Conscripted into the Krotoan Army, they underwent rigorous training in jungle warfare, practicing in Bopharan and the coastal jungles of the Kraaroz inlet. During the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , in the jungles of Ma'Ohari, they engaged the hordes of Graz'zt.

During the Varelay Upheaval, spanning from 2608 LE to 16 HE , the loss of the city of Rolipoon prompted many Tragarans to migrate southward into Azrik and southeast into Gulimbor. In these regions, they would go on to establish the Tragaran nations of Borillisk, Burterinii, the Cal-Thaoun Dynasty, and the Niratar Theocracy.

Schooled at Gamba-Nîr, Tragarans spent a lot of time in a particular environment. As part of their Creation, an adaptation trait was seeded into them. Gamba-Nîr's task masters did this by design, making them better suited for certain environments. Still able to adapt, but now taking hundreds of years instead of a few, left three Tragaran variants. The Tûrugul were those that lived and trained in the Bopharan Jungle. The Adûni adapted to the highlands of Kilth, and the Punir to the lowlands.
