The Cal-Thaoun Dynasty commenced in the Sorfandien Valley, proximal to the coastlines. Across the Pharmûn Bay, they maintained scattered island strongholds. This empire was governed by the Cal-Thaoun lineage for seven centuries.

In the First Epoch, Cal-Thaoun was renowned for having the foremost alchemists (cf. Anatomical Academy ) throughout Midrêth. Even now, establishing one's descent from these alchemists confers a degree of prestige among colleagues - whether justly or not.

In 762, a Cal-Thaounean nicknamed Leghorn the Human entered the fate of the Minotaur. This accomplished alchemist devised a method to fortify a minotaur's horns, rendering them impervious to all but magical harm. The aspiration was that this would revive the spirit of a demoralized populace and grant the minotaurs the chance to impale a Khazarkar's chest with their reinforced horns.

Nîrônal, Khazarkar historian - "History of the Minotaurs"

In the War of the Three Queens, Sarquiness Cal-Thaoun led her people into battle against her sister, who presided over the affairs of Niratar.

In 1016, the Cal-Thaoun's seven-hundred-year dynasty was brought to a close. Emperor Cal-Thaoun X, the last of the Cal-Thaoun's dynastic line of emperors, and his entire family were thrown overboard. This occurred during the migration of the Great Exodus ( 998 - 1017 ) , a time when a magical cataclysm raged across Gulimbor. The people of four empires sought refuge in new lands. Most of Cal-Thaoun's subjects relocated to Hells Womb. As the refugees reached the shore, a grand ceremony was held on the beach of a strange new territory. At the culmination of this procession stood the gleaming walls of Zayr, constructed with magic over several months. Behind these walls, a sizable city was in the process of being built, its construction not part of the ceremony but relying on no shortage of magical resources. At the entrance to Zayr, the refugees swore allegiance to the newly established Kal-Oni Empire.
