The southernmost hold of the Ak'mrîtun Empire (872 HE - 49), Muzratân began as a humble fishing village. They supplied exotic seafood to meet the demands of the empire's aristocracy, occasionally shipping eggs and fish on ice to the tables of Ak'mrîtun's distant capital, Argruxiel. When the empire collapsed in 49, Muzratân's remote location on the island of Kirthak shielded it from the sanguinary abominations of the Horde of Mingrur.
Built on the isle of Kirthak, the city of Muzratân boasts three distinct ports. The northern port, situated where the Hound Wash empties into the sea, is shielded from the gusting mountain winds of the Storsalds and the tumultuous currents of the surrounding waters. The western port faces the expansive Sea of Galathien. The third port, accessible only by submerging beneath the waves, serves as a bustling marketplace for the intelligent and sophisticated aquatic denizens of the region.
Muzratân has resisted occupation by every power that has sought to dominate the Lands of Purity. The Farinteen Dynasty failed to make it a vassal, withdrawing after a series of bitter insurrections. During the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), the city maintained neutrality, repelling two Black Tide assaults. Though the government sustained its neutral stance, merchants continued their trade, supplying all who sought their wares.
