In the Year 1481, the Shade of Darkness swept across Bal-Kriav. During this period of heightened necromantic power, the isle of Torvild was particularly impacted. An Enlightening Transfer occurred, where the psyche of undead patients was disassembled and transferred to others. However, the patients broke free, turning on their mortal psychic surgeons and seizing control of their minds. Such a coordinated affair suggested that many of these patients were secretly trained mentalists, leading some to speculate that it could only have been orchestrated by a Higher Power, possibly Thasmudyan. Others argue that the planner was a demon from the deeps, one that had invaded the oceans around during the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), and had remained undetected for thousands of years. With the Sôvuk Sea Gate under Torvild's control, the latter theory gains more credibility.

What followed was a purge of Torvild Isle. The living, with their finite lifespans, were deemed flawed, incapable of attaining trade mastery within their allotted durations. The Llydaros, a people already deteriorating from centuries of inbreeding, were tracked down and transformed into the undead. Over the subsequent five years, the undead seized control of Torvild.

The undead of Torvild are quite unlike the depictions in literature. They are immortal artisans, engineers, architects, and musicians, dedicated to the perpetual refinement of their skills. Any hindrance to this pursuit is deemed malevolent and disruptive - a circumstance to be addressed through an Enlightening Transfer.
