The Sôvuk Sea Gate once served as a portal between the Abyssal world Kurun'Ush and the world Bal-Kriav. The architect of this monumental structure was a formidable demon wizard known as Gorag'theg, whose mastery of necromancy enabled him to harness soul energy to power the Manes Chimneys.

This gateway to the Abyss was opened during the Demon Spawn War, spanning from 89 GE to 269 GE. It is an underwater grotto beneath the isle of Torvild, a rift opening that links Bal-Kriav with a faraway world of the Abyss. Minions of Gorag'theg then excavated a westerly tunnel towards the waters of Morwuld Briin. To stabilize the rift, the Manes Chimneys were constructed to serve as both protection against Covenant attacks and for channeling soul power to maintain the rift's stability.

In the Demon Spawn War, the Covenant made numerous attempts at sealing this rift, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives; even the weave spiders were powerless to mend it as long as the Manes Chimneys continued to burn.

On the 17th of Brightstar in the 126th year of the God Era, with a dearth of manes, a million were consumed as the Manes Chimneys cooled. The valiant wardens of The Weave then sealed the rift of the Sôvuk Sea Gate.
