Marveled engineering marvels, these four structures lie off the coasts of Torvild Isle. Constructed from bones, stone, and flotsam, they served as the fuel that maintained a nearby rift during the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) .

The Manes Chimneys, these rift anchors, were fed manes to fuel the engines that kept the rift open. The presence of this rift, the Sôvuk Sea Gate, and its anchors transformed the Isle of Torvild into a hotspot, with Covenant aquatic armies battling the demon legions emerging from the rift.

The aquatic demons emerged from a malodorous and pestilent marsh. Departing their Abyssal dwelling, they traversed to Bal-Kriav. They swam through a gloomy aqueous passage where the lesser demons were culled by their more powerful counterparts. This was not a trial, but merely the innate nature of the demons. Ultimately, the higher-ranking demons opted to monitor and escort the masses, herding them into a formidable army.

from the artwork - Sôvuk Gate

The writings in the artwork Sôvuk Gate accurately depict a subterranean channel beneath the island. This channel lies 100 feet below the waters on the western side of Torvild. Spanning a considerable length of many miles, the channel measures 20 feet in diameter. At its far end resides an ancient chamber where a rift between realms once spiraled in the shroud of darkness.

From 100 GE to 126 GE, the Manes Chimneys served as gateways to another realm, portals that the weave spiders were incapable of closing. Each of these towering structures, once said to have stored the energy of a hundred thousand manes, were expensive to construct and maintain. The demon lord Gorag'theg staked everything on his invasion of Bal-Kriav. Despite being well-defended, the Covenant never succeeded in capturing any of the Manes Chimneys. Ultimately, with no more manes to power them, the Sôvuk Sea Gate eventually closed on its own due to lack of fuel.

When Torvild was overrun during the Dark Revolt, many speculated whether the Sôvuk Sea Gate had truly been sealed. The Manes Chimneys were cleared and reoccupied, transforming into trading outposts between the living and the island's three undead strongholds.
