The Quara'tun Covenant was an alliance of mortals and esteemed heroes from the Creation War, spanning the years 1486 DE to 8777 DE . Building upon the earlier Nawirrûs Covenant, its members combated those seeking to dismantle civilization. Renamed for its new focal point, the Quara'tun System, the primary adversaries of the Quara'tun Covenant were the demon lords.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , the Covenant engaged in battle against the Abyssal Hegemony. From the start of the conflict, the top commander on the Covenant side was Ares, who led the forces of the Quara'tun Covenant until 152 GE. When Ares ascended to become a Higher Power, the title of Chief Supreme Commander (CSC) was passed to his most capable general, a warmonger like Ares named Asmodeus. Another general, Athena, who was of higher seniority and more favored, was overlooked for the position. This decision would create tensions between Asmodeus 's faction, eager to fight the demons on equal terms, and the more moderate Athena, who preferred to prosecute the war through more merciful methods.

The Demon Spawn War was a ruthless conflict that transformed some of the Covenant's leaders to resemble their adversaries. For some, this occurred through demon torture, as exemplified by Lolth, or from underhanded tactics employed by certain Covenant factions during what often appeared to be a losing battle, as in the case of the Fallen Angels.
