The colossal subterranean ruin of Ghak is located within the Adunamar Region. It was constructed during the Demon Spawn War, a tumultuous period spanning from 89 GE to 269 GE when hordes of demons emerged from the Abyss to assail Bal-Kriav and other worlds of the Mortal Systems.

Ghak, a formidable stronghold, was constructed by demons and mortal slaves under the authority of the demon lord Orcus. Its purpose was to shield a rift that connected Orcus's abyssal domain with the mortal realm. Ghak subsequently became the capital of Orcus's Bal-Kriav holdings. During the Hoof Front in 230 GE, the Covenant legions led by Asmodeus overwhelmed the defenders through sheer numerical superiority, forcing the demons to retreat back through the rift.

The strategy of demons at all levels is to launch a relentless assault, attacking en masse from every direction, and persisting in the onslaught until the foe is vanquished or their own forces are depleted - which is seldom the case, as their numbers are often overwhelmingly disproportionate, with ratios as extreme as 10:1, 100:1, or even 1000:1.

The Siege of Ghak was a battle where we possessed a significant numerical advantage, outnumbering our adversary by a staggering 50:1 ratio. They had little chance of prevailing and acted accordingly, abandoning their sergeants, captains, and their commander Orcus. Their retreat provided only a brief respite, as they would face a far more dreadful fate upon their return to Thanatos, when Orcus had these cowards tracked down.

From the surface, the primary means of reaching Ghak is via a road leading into Kulaan Ruus. Ghak is an expansive ruin, with regions flooded or submerged, overrun by alien vegetation and possessing an uncommon ambiance. A sealed rift, the Gates of Ghak, weakened by time and abyssal energy, which once connected Ghak to Orcus's homeworld Thanatos, is the culprit.
