Built by the Kal-Oni Empire, Troom initially functioned as a simple frontier outpost. It consistently faced threats from hostile elements emerging from Ghar-Lakh, Cormindar, and Isaril. The majority of these attacks originated from the eight Orc tribes operating within the Cormindar highlands. When not occupied with mining the season's ore, they would turn to raiding. This was a seasonal endeavor, as the Ghar-Lakh channels became too shallow for ore-laden barges during the summer months. Destined for Tarkrath, 270 miles away, the ore passed through numerous hands along the journey, often resulting in a net loss by the time it reached its destination. Nevertheless, as Tarkrath's sole source of iron, they compensated for this with other resources and raiding.
Ghar-Lakh Graagvrii occasionally formed alliances with the region's orc tribes. They both perceived the northward expansion of Kal-Oni settlements as a menace. In addition to their own stake in iron ore, the Kal-Oni constructed Troom as part of a pact with Dalg's chieftain. Troom was intended to bear the brunt of assaults, ideally relieving pressure on Dalg's surrounding villages and homesteads.
When hostilities erupted between Tarkrath and the Kal-Oneans, Troom became the first to witness the ravages of war. In 1031, the city fell to the orcish invaders, resulting in the slaughter of the entire garrison and civilian population. Outraged by this wanton act of butchery, Kal-Oni vowed to drive the orcs from Kamoni. A decade later, they succeeded in their endeavor. For the orcs who lost their homeland, this period of forced migration became known as the Arduous March (1041 - 1096).
Today, Troom is a haunted locale. The spirits of Troom are uneasy. The ruthless massacre of civilians and the slain soldiers under a flag of surrender led to the emergence of banshees and other undead entities. Pûrag Liram, a renowned undead smith, resides at Troom. He is occasionally contracted by those seeking to forge malevolent weapons that inflict damage upon mortal hands.
