Built to impede the abyssal hordes of Demogorgon, the volcano Vaermund joined a network of volcanoes spanning the Agulbandal Wastes. Owing to its frequent eruptions, Vaermund and the other volcanoes rendered the landscape a perilous domain to traverse.

When the threat of the demons receded, Vaermund fell under the dominion of a long succession of petty tyrants spanning millennia. However, during the Horgon Era, more prudent leaders assumed power. They abandoned the practices of raiding and warmongering in favor of commercial pursuits. Referred to as the Soot Lords, their holdings extend from the upper slopes of the volcano down to where it converges with Annbilds Entrail.
