Before the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), this region was a lush, verdant vale surrounded by towering, pristine peaks. To hinder and halt Demogorgon's northward push, the valley was set ablaze by one with the power to transform mountains into volcanoes. Surtur, ally of the Covenant, and his fiery legions unleashed a fiery onslaught, forging volcanoes from the peaks of Typhalumus, Vaermund, and the Daughters of Surtur. This turned the region of Agulbandal, named after the salamander engineer who devised the plan, into a volcanic wasteland torn by eruptions and vast lava flows.

The creator's benevolent hand has fashioned a land most apt for tranquil lava lakes and the scarlet streams of Muspelheim. By commanding the currents, we may bake the earth, fracture it through cycles of cooling and heating, submerge it to the depth of a colossal forge of flame and vapor, where those immune to the searing temperature must endure the fractured terrain and navigate our grand canals and fortifications, all reinforced with the hardy Naanabrak.

Agulbandal, Surtur's chief engineer

In 788 HE, distant progeny of those who once labored in this domain founded the settlement of Alreirsoar. As the epicenter of fire giant culture for the locality, they undertook the task of restoring the immense canals and sluice gates of Yorthrun Tor, rendering certain areas less perilous and more accommodating for wayfarers and merchants.
