Raefknar is a formidable rift situated in the southeastern corner of Agulbandal. This seven-mile-deep canyon is often shrouded in a veil of smoke, originating from either surface eruptions in Agulbandal or the exhaust vents along the rift's depths. These vents, constructed as chimneys over the ages by various groups of Mîmêk and Svirfneblin, have historically been the means by which these two peoples have exploited Raefknar's abundant mineral resources. The lava lakes Hroi and Geintar, as well as the lava river Annbild Hrolmir, are the sources from which the vents draw the gases and smoke.

On the Surface, Raefknar measures five miles at its widest point, while its bottom is a mere mile across. The cavern floor at this depth is a rugged terrain, carpeted with bones, debris, and mining waste. It is dotted with geysers, boiling lakes, and poisonous streams. Occasionally, lava cascades into the area, a phenomenon that occurs when both of the Daughters of Surtur are erupting, inevitably leading to the overflowing of the Jorgeir lava lake.

The openness of the rift and its numerous points of egress from the Underdark result in certain creatures departing Drarthiel and migrating to other regions of the realm. One of the more dreadful creatures that occasionally leave Drarthiel and seek a new abode are abyssal drakes. These horrific beasts were originally conceived during the Demon Spawn War. They primarily dwell in the lower depths of Drarthiel, and are often quite eager to escape those areas and relocate to regions where prey is more abundant.

As a consequence of the Raefknar War, this rift fell under the dominion of Yastorogg.
