In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), forces under the primordial lord Hettar established a foothold in these hills, taking the war to the Covenant when necessary. By 8400 DE and the later stages of the war, the primordials were steadily losing ground. Hettar sought to position himself as a potential ally of the Covenant, should the primordials ultimately be defeated. To maintain appearances with fanatical sects like the Chaos Purists, Hettar had Radveig fortified for war.
Traversing Radveig towards the secluded vale of Rumak, Hettar's subordinates constructed roads, expansive underground complexes beneath the hills, and colossal fortifications. Pursuing lucrative veins of gold plunging deep underground, they excavated immense mining pits; the surplus rock and soil were utilized in the construction of the massive citadel of Kjarlof.
After uncovering lucrative gold deposits, Hettar's insatiable greed prompted further excavation, inflating prices for the Covenant. Allegedly influenced by the alluring temptations of Mammon, the relentless mining efforts escalated the fabricated conflict between the Covenant and Hettar into a full-fledged war.
After Hettar's defeat by Bahamut, the formidable fortifications of this region went on to serve a new Covenant during the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE). In this subsequent conflict, an archangel named Avandra and her Halfling armies were stationed within these hills, combating roaming demons and the legions of Demogorgon.
The Lith-Crillion Era witnessed the region in a state of wilderness and disrepair. Efforts to construct embankments and implement measures to prevent water intrusion into the mining pits proved unsuccessful, leading to the formation of numerous ponds and small lakes, collectively known as Hettars Spittoons.
