Map Annbild Hrolmir River

The mighty Annbild Hrolmir, also known as Annbilds Entrail, is a substantial lava river that traverses multiple regions of the Brucrumus's Underdark. It was christened after a legendary captain of the guard who served under Surtur during the Creation War. Surtur paid tribute to this hero's demise by naming one of the rivulets of the Great Vein in his honor.

The Annbild Hrolmir is an immense lava river that serves as an artery of the Great Vein of Surtur. This lava artery is nourished by the molten rock from the deepest recesses of the Underdark. Originating from the Great Vein, the lava surges straight upward for numerous leagues through the Sygning Spigot before leveling off and flowing eastward as the Annbild Hrolmir magma river.

When pressure builds, eruptions occur at various points along the river. The pressure releases manifest as active volcanoes, while areas with extinct volcanoes have undergone such changes that the pressure is no longer channeled into the volcano. The Annbild Hrolmir river begins in the Sygning sector of the Underdark region Phangul. It flows eastward, with the first pressure release being the volcano Traeulf. After this volcano, the lava river continues east for another four hundred miles where it splits into two branches. One branch flows southeast into Ufthag and continues eastward across the bottom of Garathral. The split lava rivers feed all the volcanic activity of Agulbandal, including its four active volcanoes - Vaermund, Kradlod, Vistlod, and Trylming. Leaving Garathral, the lava river continues east, releasing gas and smoke up the Annbild Pipe.

and then cutting south where it feeds the lava tubes of Bolmod. In Yol Skerah, a region beneath the Aerie of Dragons, the lava river splits into three with each river ending at a volcano.

Annbild Hrolmir can be navigated by lava barge. It is not a typical route for most, however, as few can withstand the often noxious and poisonous conditions, as well as the extreme heat. The people of Surticon are the river's primary users. They employ it to transport goods to distant ports, from Sygning to Yol Skerah. Travel along the lava flow is halted in areas where the lava completely fills the tubes. In these instances, a land journey is undertaken to reach the next open area where more lava barges are stationed. In addition to the environmental hazards of the river, there are also bands of salamanders, fire snakes, and other fiery beasts.

The lava barges of Annbild Hrolmir, crewed by fire giants, offer the most effective safeguard against the threat of a ravenous fire snake or a salamander brandishing a man-catcher.
