Square Nails is an ancient tome penned during the God Era. Written by Demogorgon, it began as a war journal. It was read for its insight on his war strategies, supplying a demon army numbering twenty legions, and his ideas on the conflict his enemies called the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE). Those who have read it without becoming mouthpieces of its author claim it does not come across as the work of perhaps the Abyss's most brutal and evil of demon lords.

In one passage, Demgorgon writes, "the majority of us yearned for a thriving realm of our own, distant from the malevolence sundering Piranoth's Steps." In another, "ravenous for additional land and conquests," he elucidates his reasoning behind the northern advance.

The strategic blockades surrounding the region have proven challenging To the south, the seas pose a barrier, while the east is claimed by the influential fat rat To the west, a stronghold of the sanctimonious stands firm, and Athroond guards the northern approach These formidable obstacles have confined the area, leaving the north as the sole avenue for potential advancement

  • Operation Foronir - Foronir river under the watch of the legendary Covenant admiral Thjorygg. A route too risky without a navy.
  • Operation Down and Under - the least desirable, too restrictive in your movements, easy to block
  • Operation Dargirth - the Dargirth, in my control all the way to Cormindar. The "retired" dragons of the Ripper, ally with no side, veterans of the Creation War, charge exorbitant tolls, a war tax they said, claiming them "pensions" for saving the world the first time around
  • the Agulbandal depression, contested by legions of Surtur, a reluctant Covenant ally

When Demogorgon retreated from Bal-Kriav, he entrusted Square Nails to a loyal mortal. Tragically killed by nomadic orcs, the tome was passed among the Gud-Mortoth, leading to an increase in their battlefield prowess. Disputes over access to the book triggered Demogorgon's sinister magic, causing each copy to take on a slightly different nuance, extolling Demogorgon's greatness and his desire to elevate the downtrodden and oppressed. Many who obtained a copy became fervent proselytizers of Demogorgon.

It is an issue, a grave matter. Square Nails does not depict its author as a demon or a merciless monster intent on annihilation and the most reprehensible acts. He comes across as a champion of liberty. Perusing his ornate prose, his towering presence, grace, and unparalleled might, one would assume he possesses an alluring appearance, when in reality he is among the most unsightly of the demon lords.
