| Map | Foronir River |
The Foronir river commences at the southern extremity of Boraresh. As the river flows southward through the Mauhúl valley and out of Grashakh, it gathers speed. Along its course, it is joined by numerous streams and smaller rivers draining from locations such as Bileddanul, Giant Steps, and Nárfaltuin. When the river reaches Idrongrun, the waters become tumultuous and treacherous to navigate.
In the region known as Hells Womb, the river expands to nearly three miles wide and begins to flow at a slower pace. It winds its way through the area, ultimately draining into the Sea of Mourning. The sheer width of the river in this region makes it a formidable obstacle to cross. Being situated on the western side of the river is what shielded locations like Celebriän and the strongholds of the Council of Bile from the devastation of the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486).
For millennia, the waters of Foronir have served as the primary means of transporting goods to distant markets. During the First Epoch and the middle of the Second Epoch, the Gimak conveyed their merchandise down the river to trade with the elven civilizations of Lorthrindal and Celebriän. Some of these products were then transported overland to the Kal-Oni empire.
In the realm of Hells Womb, the primary trade route between the Council of Bile and Celebriän is the Foronir River. During the Third Epoch, the Orchish Empire and Umahanbad began utilizing this waterway to engage in commerce with the southern peoples. It was not until the late Third Epoch, with the advent of steam-powered ships, that the river saw increased traffic flowing from Hells Womb into Grashakh. Within Hells Womb, the Council of Bile employs the river to transport goods to villages, towns, and outposts, ultimately reaching the Sea of Mourning. From there, the goods are loaded onto ocean-going vessels and shipped to overseas markets.
