The Sea of Mourning is situated between the Hells Womb and the Aerie of Dragons to the north, and Ma'Ohari to the south. The Buccaneer Archipelago forms the western border of this sea. Continuing farther west, seafarers enter the Pearl Sea. The foreboding Necrocrypt region comprises the largest group of islands in the Sea of Mourning.
The sea bears its name due to the tragedy of Gulimbor. During the Great Exodus ( 998 - 1017 ) of refugees from this region, numerous vessels were lost to storms, pirate attacks, sea serpents, undersea races, and other calamities. Estimates suggest the loss exceeded 100 ships and approximately 15,000 Tragarans, 10,000 Khazarkars, including those perished in conflicts with the Ivory Asylum, as well as several thousand Kriavfahliil.
The Sea of Mourning experiences a significant volume of maritime activity, encompassing trade, warfare, and piracy. Numerous prominent empires maintain settlements along the coasts surrounding this sea, including the Black Tide of Thasmudyan, Paradomea, Council of Bile, and Oathundor, to name but a few.
Beneath the undulating waters of the Sea of Mourning lie numerous undersea city-states and empires. An ancient empire of the merfolk, Tuc'hoom, resides near the Buccaneer Archipelago. In the profound depths proximate to this empire lies T'kyr - a malevolent sahuagin city-state.
