In 778, the ruling Lorthrindal family of the Galadriël Kingdom was voted out of power. They were replaced by those seeking to forge stronger ties with the dwarven kingdom of Gimhak. Unwilling to serve under other powers after more than two centuries of rule, the Lorthrindal packed up and departed, taking several thousand loyal followers northward into Grashakh. In the Nárfaltuin Forest, once home to the Kriavfahliil of Elalmoth, they founded the Lorthrindal kingdom on 1 Kindle 885.
In the First and the start of the Second Epoch, Lorthrindal claimed dominion over Nárfaltuin and the southwestern regions of Maar'tolaak. This began to change in 1048 with the Arduous March (1041 - 1096). The Githirmil were advancing northward from Lirgaza into Inirthak. Under the leadership of the Ageless Emperor, they penetrated the Nárfaltuin forest, the homeland of Lorthrindal's wood elves. This precipitated the War of Nárfaltuin (1048 - 1130). In this conflict, the Githirmil, the core of the future Orchish Empire, carved a path through the elven lands, clear-cutting, fortifying their advance with blockhouses, forts, and imposing castles. After two decades, Lorthrindal had lost all control of Nárfaltuin. The war then shifted southward into the Terrible Tangles, where even greater threats than Lorthrindal's arrows awaited.
In 1130, Lorthrindal's capital city Estandarenya was conquered by the Orchish Empire. This marked the demise of the elven kingdom, yet the elves endured. They retreated into the perilous fens of Tyermur, where they are believed to have fallen victim to a curse that drove many to insanity and cannibalism. Numbering in the tens of thousands, these scattered elves continue to wage war against the Orchish Empire at a tribal level across the swamps and forests.
Today, in Tyermur, there are winds known as the Dream Howling. These ethereal gusts are believed to have originated from the despair and demises of elves who fell victim to a dreadful curse.
