In the Lith-Crillion Era, the Gud-Mortoth was an Orc tribe that wandered far and wide. They traveled to the four corners of Brucrumus, narrowly escaping annihilation on several occasions. During the Horgon Era, they settled in the Mynzuth hills overlooking the Mortoth plain, residing alongside a dozen other Orc tribes in the area. These other tribes had broken away from the Gud-Mortoth, each succumbing to the persuasive words of Gruumsh, a renowned general who visited their encampments. He claimed that demon agents were using the Gud-Mortoth to divide Gruumsh's people.
In 252 HE, the Gud-Mortoth were driven from their lands by Gruumsh's orc alliance. This was carried out in a crusader-like manner, with the alliance purging the conquered as well as their own ranks of any they deemed to be working for the demons. Gud-Mortoth's shamans ordered a fighting retreat towards the Kamoni jungle, a decision that was initially met with laughter and even fear. Most of the orc warriors, inspired by Gruumsh's war journals and upholding ancient traditions from the demon war, would have preferred to die in battle rather than eke out an existence in the Kamoni. However, infiltrated by Demogorgon cultists, their shaman leaders made the final decision. When the shamans spoke in unison, guided by Demogorgon's own words, they were told they had brought shame on Gruumsh and needed to be hardened by the jungle environment to prove their worthiness to Gruumsh. Most of the listeners were enraptured and obediently followed their shamans into the jungle. Over the next eight years, they wandered, suffering from sickness and battle. Reduced to a fifth of their original numbers, they began the Great Slaughter, the execution of several stubborn shamans and their followers. At this point, the Gud-Mortoth stopped their wandering. In 260 HE, they founded the settlement of Tarkrath.
In the year 265 HG, assassins acting on behalf of Gruumush cleansed the tribe for the final time, purging it of demonic influences. This resulted in the elimination of 21 Gud-Mortoth shamans. For Demogorgon, the demon lord who had orchestrated the tribe's misfortunes, this event culminated in a substantial loss of divine power.
