In the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), an elite elven unit was tasked with eliminating a demon lord named Sathumort. The unit was the Maeraddyth Brigade under General Maeraddyth. Within the demon lord's dark stronghold Una'gah, they located and decapitated Sathumort. Although a perilous mission from the outset, they were pursued by demons and then surrounded by a demonic army seeking retribution. Approximately two thousand members of the brigade were captured, tortured, and forced into servitude under demonic masters. Exposed to demoniac energies on an Abyssal world, these prisoners became Abyssal Infused. Over just six months, their elven features were twisted and enlarged, as their patience and kindness were supplanted by entropy and brutality. They became the progenitors of the Orc race, dispersing to distant worlds as soldiers for various demon lords.

If I could have assisted General Maeraddyth and his soldiers, I would have done so. Kriav was being assailed by demons in vast numbers, so the risk of opening a rift and venturing into the Abyss was not something I could afford. They succeeded in slaying a demon lord, saved Liamenor, and endured a fate more dreadful than death. Twisted and malevolent, they despise what they once were, and my old companion Maeraddyth, relinquishing his elven name, is now my arch-adversary.
