Map Dargirth River

The Dargirth is the longest river of Brucrumus. It originates at the ruins of Luthil, where the Edhelorn, Thulfin, and the Orek converge. The river then flows southward through numerous regions, terminating in a delta that winds through and around Paradomea City before emptying into the Sea of Mourning. This waterway provides a passage from Ice Cap, through central Cinazan and western Miradelgûn, along the Sands of Hell and across Grashakh and Hells Womb, ultimately reaching the Sea of Mourning.

The Dargirth is a deep river, dredged out during the Demon Spawn War by a powerful demon leader and his legion of water elementals. In this great conflict between the demons and the Quara'tun Covenant, the rogue demon Titarhaz sought to make a name for himself among the invading demon hordes in Bal-Kriav. He tried to impress them with his long-range strategic vision of severing the continent of Brucrumus in two. Titarhaz's objective was to expand and lengthen the river from the shores of the Sea of Mourning to the chilling waters of Nautrek, believing this would enable the demons to maintain a stronger grip on the eastern half of the landmass. However, demon leaders like Orcus and Demogorgon showed little interest in such long-term planning, as the enemy was already retreating, and they would have progressed far beyond the Dargirth before Titarhaz could complete his project. Nonetheless, Titarhaz and his legion of water elementals continued to expand the river until the war's conclusion. Despite posing no significant threat to the Covenant's operations, he was not subdued until the conflict's end.

The Dargirth River is navigable from its headwaters at Luthil all the way to where it flows through Paradomea City and into the Sea of Mourning. This is thanks to the efforts of Titarhaz. The river features numerous channels, some extending hundreds of feet in depth, and ongoing work continues beneath its deep waters. Approximately a hundred water elementals, remnants from the era when they assisted in digging and clearing the channel, persist in their task of maintaining the depth and preventing heavy sedimentation.

This river reaches an immense width of five miles at the plains of Mortoth. In Lirgaza, the river's forceful current and impressive breadth render it a formidable obstacle to invasion. It has served as a natural bulwark for the Kal-Oni and now protects the Paradomea Empire. This latter kingdom patrols the entirety of the river within Hells Womb and maintains such overwhelming naval dominance that any attempting to move a large military force across would require a fleet to rival that of Paradomea City.

The spring thaw of the Ice Cap is known as the Ice Cap Melt. This event precipitates the flooding of the Dargirth and the subsequent inundation of the surrounding land for miles.
