In 1043, within the depths of Snowflake Manse, enchanters of the Witch Horde cast the final binding spells on the artifacts Blizzard and Firestorm. The immense magic employed in their creation tore a breach in the Web of Magic. Expansion of this rift was halted by weave spiders, yet it could not be sealed. Known as the Caina Nexus, this opening is an interdimensional rift linking the worlds of Bal-Kriav and Caina. The aperture appears as a vast, blue-white sheet of ice, easily mistaken for the frozen expanse of Chemosh.
The Caina Nexus, akin to other rifts, represents breaches within the Web of Magic, and those that continue to remain open can frequently alter the surrounding landscapes. The existence of the Caina Nexus in Hells Womb led to a decline in temperatures across the neighboring glacier, the arrival of new inhabitants from a foreign world, and the formation of a belt of irregular weather patterns known as the Temporal Zephyr.
To the north of the glacier and its rift lies the evergreen forest of Laucentar. Some speculate that the rift's mystical emanations, potentially a result of the disruption in the Web of Magic, led to this forest becoming renowned as the Steel Pines, with timber far more durable than typical.
