In the Year 42, a group of Ancalimë individuals, working collaboratively with an ancient Treant named Hemlockdoff, managed to access the mystical Web of Magic. Disregarding the warnings within ancient texts, they remained in The Weave for too long, subsequently drawing the attention of a dreaded weave spider. The magic-draining arachnid attacked the intruders, pulling one of the Ancalimë into the Web. Hemlockdoff, in a valiant effort, seized the weave spider and attempted to drag the beast and the trapped elf back to Bal-Kriav. A fierce battle ensued, lasting more than ten minutes, during which the hapless wizard's magic proved ineffective against the formidable weave spider. Ultimately, Hemlockdoff succeeded in killing the weave spider with a powerful bite. However, the weave spider's demise triggered a massive magical explosion, propelling the elves in all directions and fatally wounding Hemlockdoff. After regaining their composure, the elves searched the area but found no trace of their wizard companion. The investigation did, however, reveal a spiraling brown nexus of energy. Studied for many months, an intrepid wizard eventually stepped into the nexus, only to emerge on the opposite side of Bal-Kriav, stepping out from a colossal oak tree. Turning around, the wizard observed the charred outline of the missing elven wizard, seared into the trunk.

Oaken Gate is a permanent inter-dimensional rift connecting two remote regions on opposite sides of the world. In the area of Elrohir Mithrandír, the rift's aperture lies at the center of Varnavei. The other opening, or exit depending on one's perspective, resides in the southeastern expanses of the Lands of Purity. This alternate entrance stands 100 feet above the ground, nestled within the trunk of a Cloudscraper. Surrounding this towering tree and its rift is the Elamir Fortress.

The Cloudscraper tree harboring the rift is known as the Guardian Father. It houses the spirits of the druids who chose to spend their afterlife as custodians of the tree and the rift, granting the tree a repertoire of spells rivaling the most powerful of druids.
